Teaching approach:
High-energy combination of drills, choreography and improvisational  technique built upon the core fundamentals of Middle Eastern dance. The primary focus of my teaching is on creating expressive fluidity. We seek to honor and understand the common threads between the strong characteristics that define many of the ancient and ever-evolving cultural dance forms within pertinent cultural context while developing our own individual and artistic interpretations.

Instructor: Tina Taylor (“Levanáh”)

I began bellydancing in 1971 at the age of 15, studying in California with the famous Arabian author and dancer Zarifa Aradoon. Teaching and performing since the age of 19, I worked my way through my university nursing program in Montana, and continued on wherever I’ve lived in the US and abroad. I also am a yoga and meditation instructor, and have studied, taught and performed in many other dance styles and movement disciplines.

My style incorporates all of my history, and yet in bellydancing I connect my focus on grace and fluidity to my Arabian training. I greatly enjoy helping dancers find the freedom, fun and healthy whole-self integration that bellydancing can bring. I keep the atmosphere light and yet meaningful, accessible and yet challenging. I believe that everyone is a beautiful dancer, and that practicing that awareness is what makes it come true for you.

Classes begin with warm-ups, and include veil, zills (finger cymbals) and repertoire (steps). Improvisation is the goal, and short, 1-class routines are utilized to help learn transitions. All ages, sizes, levels of fitness/unfitness are welcome; modifications are always possible for physical issues. Please come!
